NFL Pulse
A past NFL season, replayed.
NFL Pulse
Privacy notice
Provisional: this notice has not yet been reviewed by counsel. It will be reviewed, and may change, before any public launch.

NFL Pulse is a private pilot for invited readers. This page lists everything the app stores about you, why, for how long, and how to delete it. It is checked against the app's own code: if the app starts storing something new about you, the app's tests fail until it is listed here.

Your email address and invitation

What: The email address the founder invited, who invited it and when, and whether the invitation is still active or was removed.

Why: Only invited people may use the pilot. Your address is used once, at your first sign-in, to find your invitation, and only if your sign-in provider says the address is verified.

How long: Until you delete your account. The invitation is then marked removed and your email address is erased from it.

Your sign-in provider account ID

What: The identifier your sign-in provider gives your account. Not your password: the app never sees or stores it.

Why: To recognise you when you sign in again.

How long: Until you delete your account.

Your account record

What: An account number, a name the app makes up for you (such as reader-1a2b3c), your role (reader or staff), two fixed settings every account starts with ("terms accepted" and the age band "13 or older"; you are not asked about either yet), and, after deletion, the date the account was deleted.

Why: To run your account and decide what you may see and do.

How long: Until you delete your account. The empty record then stays, with no email address, provider ID, age answer or name of yours, so the records below that cannot be deleted still point at something.

Your answer to "I am 18 or older"

What: Yes or no, and when you answered. No birth date is collected.

Why: Mature content stays locked unless you answer yes.

How long: Until you change it in account settings, or delete your account.

Your sign-ins

What: For each sign-in: when it started and ends, whether your provider reported a second factor, and whether you signed out. The app keeps only a scrambled fingerprint of the session key in your browser's cookie, never the key itself.

Why: To keep you signed in, and to end a sign-in when you sign out.

How long: A sign-in ends after 12 hours, or when you sign out. Its record is deleted 90 days after that, or when you delete your account, whichever comes first.

What you follow

What: Each team, Event or source you follow, and your alert setting for it.

Why: To show and tell you about what you follow.

How long: Until you unfollow, or delete your account.

Your bookmarks

What: Each item you bookmark, and when.

Why: So you can find it again.

How long: Until you delete your account.

Notifications sent to you

What: Each notification, what it was about, when it was sent, and whether you have opened it.

Why: To tell you about corrections and alerts on what you follow.

How long: Until you delete your account.

Comments, reactions, reports and blocks

What: Anything you write, react to, report or block. The pilot does not offer these yet, but the app can store them.

Why: To run comments and keep them safe, when they open.

How long: Until you delete your account.

A tester invitation, if you have one

What: If the founder made you a tester of a replay season: which season, who invited you, why and when.

Why: A season's replay clock is set from its tester invitations.

How long: Kept: these records cannot be changed or deleted, by design. After you delete your account they point only at an empty account number.

The audit log

What: A record of each sign-in, sign-out, age answer, account creation and deletion, and of follows and other actions, by account number: what happened, when, and a scrambled fingerprint of what changed. It never holds your email address in readable form; the record of an invitation being added or removed keeps a scrambled fingerprint of the address.

Why: To keep a tamper-evident record of what happened in the app.

How long: Kept: the audit log cannot be changed or deleted, by design. No end date is set yet; counsel will set one before public launch.

What the app does not keep
  • No history of what you read.
  • No birth date, password, location, phone number or payment details.
  • Nothing is sold, and nothing you write is used to train outside AI models.
How to delete it

Sign in, open Account settings, and choose "Delete my account". You will be asked to confirm. Deletion erases everything above marked as deleted or erased, and ends every sign-in at once. To use the pilot again afterwards, ask the founder for a new invitation.
